If only they had nine lives.

Growing up, I wasn't really a cat guy. Dogs were the way to go. I had the same dog from the moment I can remember to when I was 15.

I just didn't like cats as much. When I was in middle school, we got an orange cat from our neighbors and he was kind of an asshole. He would attack you for no reason, if fact, he used to hide under my sisters bed every night and attack her feet before she went to bed. (I didn't know this until a couple of years ago)

I had experience with other cats throughout my life, but never to the point where I recognized myself as being a cat person. It's hard to make something part of your identity when you don't have one of your own.

That all changed when my wife and I moved in together and we got Luna. That fluffy, plastic eating, calico has shown me the way. She is perfect, and because of her I have made being a cat guy part of my identity.

Maybe it is just the point of my life that I am at, but having a cat has just livened up our home in such a wonderful way. Nothing is quiet, in fact, when things are too quiet that is a sign that someone might be up to something.

Of course, it's not only Luna now. A couple of years ago we got Tallie, and the sweetest tuxedo cat in the whole world has been such a great addition to our household.

Don't get me wrong, it's not all great. I stepped in a hairball the other day, if we are ever late with dinner, we will get harassed by tiny felines, and I still get attacked from under the bed from time to time. But, having cats of our own has made our lives more vibrant and fun, and I am so glad that we have made the choice to be cat people.

Moral of the story: get a cat!
